INTRODUCTION

Welcome to your Wolsey Hall Guide to the Cambridge IGCSE Economics course. Please take the time to read carefully through this guide. It will explain how the course is structured, how to get the most out of the course and how your work will be assessed. At the end of this guide you will find the Programme of Study for the course which shows how the course links to the CAIE syllabus.

This course will lead you step-by-step through the syllabus by way of video links, quizzes, assignments and, of course, the Coursebook so that by the end you are confident and keen to enter the exam to show off all you have learnt.

To the inquiring mind, Economics is a fascinating subject on many levels, relevant to what is happening in the world around us all. This is even more apparent as Britain’s relationship with the European Union, and the shape of the Union itself will come under increasing scrutiny in the coming years.

On a more personal level we have seen, and will continue to see, many changes in our daily lives, many of which Economics can help us to understand.

During your course, you will learn a lot about Economics that’s fascinating and useful. By the end of the course, you should have developed:

  • An understanding of the key elements of microeconomics and macroeconomics and an appreciation of areas in which they overlap;
  • The ability to understand the theory that underpins the subject, as well as how this relates to the real world;
  • The ability to understand and evaluate information of different types and from different sources;
  • The ability to think logically and to present coherent argument in clear and concise language and format;
  • A firm foundation for the study of Economics at A level and perhaps beyond.

We hope you’ll enjoy your IGCSE Economics course and studying at Wolsey Hall. We wish you the best of luck in your studies and success in your examination.
