RESOURCES:
Lined paper | Recount Plan Completed in Lesson 4
Introduction
Begin today’s lesson by reviewing the Recount Plan your student created yesterday.
Tell your student to be sure that they included:
- First person because it happened to you.
- Use the past tense because it has already happened.
- Recounts are written in the order in which they happened. This is called chronological order.
- Use adverbs such as: firstly, next, then and finally.
- Use descriptive words that will make it seem like your reader is there with you. Focus on the most exciting parts.
- An introduction – tell us who, what, when, where and why
- Body paragraphs – focusing on the details
- Conclusion – how it ends.
They can use the Recounts Rubric resource to help them.

Main Activity
Once your student is satisfied with their plan, they should begin creating a rough draft of their recount. Tell your student that they do need to use paragraphs, but they don’t need to worry about spelling, grammar or punctuation on a rough draft. It is important to get their ideas on paper and they can look over the aforementioned things during the editing phase of writing.
Spelling
Take your spelling test by reading out the words from Week 1, Day 1 by asking your student to write the spelling.
