Topic Four (1.4): Eine Beschreibung von meinem Zuhause
Introduction
In this topic you will learn to do the following:
- Give more detailed descriptions of rooms in your house
- Use the dative case (dative prepositions).
Reading
Exercise 1, page 18. Read the article and answer questions (1-8) in German. Then try exercise 1b – make a note of the words that you found most useful and important in the article and their translations in your native language.
Listening
Exercise 2, page 19. Listen to the recording and decide who says each statement (1-8):

Grammar
Exercise 3a, page 19. Study A6, E2 and E3 in the Grammatik section of your textbook. Using dative prepositions (aus, bei, mit, in, seit) or dative articles (dem, der, den) select the word that is the best fit for each of the gaps in sentences (1-8). Then try exercise 3b – Copy out the dative prepositions that are underlined in the Exercise 1 text. Jot down the translations for these in your native language and try to learn them.

Exercises 1 and 2, page 42. Complete these exercises in your grammar workbook to practise using dative prepositions and dative articles.
Speaking
Exercise 4, page 19. Either with a partner or working alone, create (and say aloud) answers to the role play questions (1-5).
Writing
Exercise 5, page 19. Write a short description of your favourite room in your ‘dream house!’ Make sure that you include all of the information detailed in the bullet points.
