INTRODUCTION TO US HISTORY AND THE ISSUE OF SLAVERY
Introduction
This module should be read in conjunction with the Programme of Study.
The Programme of Study lists the topics that are in the module and gives you the relevant page references for your textbook. Module Overview
This module introduces the American political system in 1820 and the context which had shaped it. You will study the differences which had emerged between North and South, particularly over the issue of slavery, and how these were affected by economic and territorial expansion. The final topics consider the attempts to identify a compromise which was acceptable to both sides in the dispute over slavery.
