INFORMATION REPRESENTATION
Introduction
This module should be read in conjunction with the Programme of Study.
The Programme of Study lists the topics that are in the module and gives you the relevant page references for your textbook. This module aims to give you more direction as you work through the various topics. It will aim to highlight the most important items in the topic, as well as areas that need particular care. It will also point you towards the resources you should be using.
Remember to double-check the syllabus to make sure you cover all the items that you need to.
Module Overview
Every instruction that a computer executes is coded in a binary language and in this module, you will try to understand the basis of different number systems and learn to perform binary arithmetic. The module then builds on understanding how the same data can be represented as images, sound and compressing files.
You will come across many familiar topics if you did complete the IGCSE course and also many new interesting areas like binary prefixes and binary arithmetic.
Key Terminology
Make sure you understand the key terms for this topic. Make yourself a glossary in a word document or PowerPoint where you can collect and explain the key terminology as you go along.
