Introduction
- One of the biggest battles in England - the Battle of Hastings - made a lasting impact on British history. Here you will find out what happened. Remember to read the content properly before attempting any activities.
Working through your coursebook
- Complete the ‘Over to You’ section on page 23 and make sure you are clear on the differences between the two armies and who would be more likely to win at the beginning of the battle.
- Complete questions 1 and 2 in the ‘Over to You’ section on page 25.
- Read pages 26 and 27 and discuss the different theories on Harold’s death with your observer.
- In preparation for your assignment, you may want to read the ‘Literacy Focus’ section on page 29 to practice how to make notes.
Extension activity for this topic
- In order to get the best marks in your assignment, aim to think carefully about how you would answer the ‘Cause and Consequence’ section on page 24. What evidence is there to support the statement that the archers were the main reason? How would you disagree and what evidence would you use?
