How to approach your assignments

Assignment.png Approaching your assignments

The assignment is the work you have produced in each unit and it should represent 6 weeks worth of work. There is no ‘test’ at the end of each module, as you will find in other subjects. It is important that you photograph as much as possible so that your tutor can see your progress over time. You will be assessed on this, as well as the effort you have made. There is no ‘set standard’ to achieve - this is a personal, creative journey.

You will be expected to keep a visual journal and accompanying sketch pad throughout the course. Your visual journal should be used to document and record how you work as an artist. In addition to recording new skills and techniques, try to add your own thoughts and opinions, especially in your reflections on your own work and the work of other artists. This is an important part of ‘working artistically’ . You should view your visual journal as an extension of your imagination and your personality. As part of each assignment, you will need to take photos of your sketch pad and any other artistic creations and send these to your tutor. Your sketch pad should be approx. A3 size (29cm x 42 cm), hardback and should contain quality cartridge paper.

You will also need to send your notes from your visual journal. Please ask your tutor in your Welcome call for help in understanding how to use your visual journal if you are unsure. You will also be required to complete and submit a reflection task.

Can I send in several assignments at the same time?

We ask that you do not submit multiple assignments at the same time. It is very important that you reflect on your tutor’s feedback before beginning each new assignment, so that you can incorporate their tips for improvement into each new piece of work.

Uploading your assignment

Please upload your pictures and reflection as a single document when asked.

If you do not have a scanner, you can use your smartphone or tablet to take a photo of the reflection or artwork and convert it to PDF.

The following free app will convert photos to PDF:

Microsoft Office Lens|PDF Scan in Apple Store or Google Play.

CamScanner (Links to an external site.) (requires a premium account to access certain features or remove the watermark)

The following apps require in app purchases, but will do the same:

ScanBot Pro and MyScan  (available for both iOS and Android)

Then you need to merge the pdfs into one:

Each scanning device will have its own methodology for doing this, so you should consult the manual for your scanner or multi-function device for instructions on how to do this.

Alternatively, there is a free software programme available here for both Apple and PC computers which will enable you to merge PDF documents.
