In this topic, you will learn colours in Spanish. You will also study some very useful expressions to give your opinion and some very important conjunctions.

Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:

  • Page 16 Exercise 1: Listen to Audio Track 12 and practise saying the colours aloud, focusing on pronunciation:

  • Read and learn the expressions in the Gramática box on page 16 - they are very important as you will use them regularly to express your likes/dislikes. Then complete Exercise 2 page 16 by listening to Audio Track 13 and people expressing their opinions about colours. Write down the colour which they are talking about and draw an emoticon to show their opinion.

  • Page 16 Exercise 3 – Practise the role play aloud.
  • Page 17 Exercise 4 – You are going to read about Marta, Eneko and Iñaki. Can you understand all that they say? Match the correct picture to each text.
  • Page 17 Exercise 5 – Answer the questions in English about Marta, Eneko and Iñaki.
  • Read Estrategia on page 17 and learn the conjunctions. These conjunctions are a great way to extend sentences and make your speaking and writing much more impressive. Learn these six conjunctions and use them in your work as much as possible from now on.
  • Then complete Exercise 6 Page 17. Following the pattern of the paragraphs in Activity 4, write something similar about yourself. Make sure that you cover all five bullet points.

  • Write four sentences using four of the expressions you learnt in the Gramática box. Try to talk about your preferences regarding colours. Can you also include one of the conjunctions from Estrategia? For example: odio el marrón pero me encanta el rosa.

In Spanish, we use claro / oscuro to describe the intensity of a colour. Can you work out the meaning of the following?

Read Gramática on page 16: these expressions are very useful and you will use them a lot, so make sure that you learn them! Remember: to make any sentence negative in Spanish, you only need to place the word no before the verb. For example: no me gusta, no odio, no tengo, no soy. Complete Exercise 4 on page 23 to practise using opinions further.
