Interact Icon.png Working through your coursebook

Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:

  • Let’s learn some key everyday objects! Look at the pictures and text on Page 10. Can you work out their English translations? You can check your answers by looking at the vocabulary section on page 21.
  • Page 10 Exercise 1. Once you feel confident with the words, listen to audio Disc 1 Track 8.

  • You will hear people talking about their favourite object. Listen to each one twice and write down which object each one is referring to.
  • Page 10 Exercise 2. Write three role plays of your own, following the structure given. You must include the question ‘Mon objet préféré, c’est quoi?’ (What’s my favourite object?)
  • Now let’s look at the different materials that objects can be made of! Look at the pink cloud at the bottom of page 10. Can you work out which are the shapes of the objects and which are materials? How did you decide? Once you have worked this out, copy and complete the table in Exercise 3 in English.
  • Mystery time! Exercise 4 page 11 – read the descriptions and work out which object is being described for each one.
  • Time to listen! Copy the grid for Exercise 5 page 11. Listen to audio Disc 1 Track 9 and look at the objects on page 10.

  • What are the children’s favourite objects? You should listen to each person twice. As an extension to this activity, note down as many additional items of information per item as you can. Tip to help! This could be the colour of the item, or the material that it is made of.
  • Exercise 6 page 10. Read Bastien’s email about his favourite object and translate it into English to ensure your comprehension. Then, change the details in italics to describe your own favourite object.

Stretch Icon.png Extension activity for this topic

Make up your own mystery! Write down three of your favourite items (you need to choose different ones to those in Exercise 1). You can use a dictionary to help you to translate them into French. Then try to describe them using similar structures to those in Exercise 4.

Grammar Icon.png Grammar Alert

  • Did you notice how all the words have ‘un’ or ‘une’ in front of them? This is the way in which we say ‘a’ in French. Study the Grammaire box on page 10 and read the section on page 166 about the indefinite article.
