STUDYING LATIN

Latin is a dead language that never died!  While Latin may not be the native language of any community, it is still spoken and is commonly studied and read for a variety of reasons.

Latin has also not died because it was reborn and renamed as French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian—the five Romance languages. About 90 percent of the vocabulary of these languages comes from Latin. These Romance languages are actually forms of Latin that have evolved over the centuries in various regions with some interaction from other local tongues.

In the Cambridge IGCSE Latin course, you will develop an ability to understand Latin, leading to a recognition of Latin's influence on modern European languages. By comparing the structure of Latin with other languages, you will also develop an analytical approach to language learning. You will study Latin prose and verse in its social and historical context and will be encouraged to develop a personal response to what you read. This will give you an awareness of a different time and culture, and an appreciation of Rome's legacy to the modern world.

STUDYING WITH WOLSEY HALL

Course Structure

Each of our Wolsey Hall courses is written around a specialised coursebook which has been chosen by our tutor team as the best available text for each syllabus. You will be guided through this book by working through a series of online modules. These course modules have been developed by a subject specialist and include guidance linked to the coursebook and extensive online resources. At the end of each module, there is an interactive quiz which enables you to assess how much of the syllabus you have understood so far.  Once you are happy that you have achieved all the learning objectives for that module, you will begin work on the Module Assignment. The Assignments are submitted online and marked by your Course Tutor. Each Assignment is assessed by your tutor and returned with a grade and detailed feedback.

This CAIE Latin course consists of fourteen modules and concludes with our Exam Prep Module and Mock Examination service.
