Warm Up
Using the opinion memory cards from the Les opinions et les passe-temps Memory Cards, match them up with items of a certain colour or animal toys and try to elicit the sentence from the student, e.g. hold up the cards and a toy dog to get the sentence j’aime le chien. Allow the student to elicit some sentences from you as well.

Main Activity
Using the memory cards for hobbies from the Les opinions et les passe-temps Memory Cards, lay out the five picture cards and five text cards and encourage student to match them up.
Watch Les passe-temps video and make sure you are correct, practise the pronunciation of each activity (pause at 1m 18s).

With the memory cards laid out, ask the student to decide on which one is the odd one out - there is no correct answer for this, they should come up with as many solutions as they can (it may be 'I don’t like football but I like all the others’). Some possible answers:
- La natation because all the others look like English words;
- La télévision because it has accents on the letters;
- Le football because it is the only masculine noun (le) - make sure you include this one as it is important.
Go to page 34 in Skoldo French Book One. Restart Les passe-temps video. Listen to the questions in the grammar box at the top of page - this is how you ask if someone likes something and how you can answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Practise saying the question and the answers - pay particular attention to the phrase Est-ce que … ? - pronounced ‘ES - k’ - only two syllables. It is how we can make any statement into a question in French.

Using the memory cards with the hobbies pictures, make a pile and turn it face down. Make another pile of the opinion pictures. Start with teacher asking the question Est-ce que tu aimes … ? - the teacher picks from the hobbies pile and inserts the name of the hobby. The student picks from the opinion pile and answers with the appropriate opinion. Swap over so that the student also asks the question.

Complete Exercises 1, 2 and 3 on page 34 in Skoldo French Book One.
Follow-on Activity
Complete a survey of your family and friends on the five hobbies we have learnt. Ask the question Est-ce que tu aimes … ? for all five and note down the answers. You can then produce a bar chart showing your findings.
