Module One
Welcome to the Lower Secondary Latin and the Roman World course. In Module One, you will meet the gods of Mount Olympus and find out a bit about their history. Roman gods are quarrelsome and petty so do not expect them to be kind and compassionate towards humans!
You will also be learning some Latin vocabulary and finding out about how Latin nouns change their endings depending on the job they are doing in each sentence. These endings are called cases and it will be really helpful to you as you go through the course if you can learn to recognise these endings. You will also be using some basic verbs, so keep an eye on how the words are grouped together to make a sentence. Patterns are really helpful in Latin. Keep an eye out for Latin words that still survive in some form in English; these are called derivations and they are good words to be able to use in your writing.
Follow the module instructions to guide you through the coursebook and to get hints and tips on what you should be reading in the book and which exercises you should be doing. The answer keys are also available, but you should try the exercises first or you will find the assignment at the end of each module more difficult.
When you have completed the module and you feel confident that you can remember the language and the background information you have been reading, you are ready to complete the assignment and submit it to your tutor.
