Objectives for this topic
- To understand descriptions of festivals using different time phrases and tenses.
Introduction
In this topic, you will read some more complex texts about festivals and extend your knowledge of the perfect tense with avoir as well as beginning to learn how to use the perfect tense of the verb aller which uses a different auxiliary verb.
Working through your coursebook
Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:
- Page 120 Exercise 1 - Read the two texts aloud slowly, focusing on your pronunciation. Then work out who is saying each phrase – is it Thomas or Anaïs?
- Listen to Audio Disc 2 Track 31 and put the six phrases in Exercise 2 page 121 in the correct order.
- Page 121 Exercise 3 - Re-read the texts from Exercise 1 and decide if the phrases (a-f) are in the past, present or future tense. How can you tell?
- Using the texts from Exercise 1 page 120, find two present tense verbs, two past tense verbs and two future tense verbs. Write their meanings in English.
Review
- Complete Page 121 Exercise 4 - Write a paragraph about a special day or event of your choice. Use the orange box to help you with your verb constructions – you should try to use all three tenses in your writing if you can.
