Topic Four (1.4): Un tour du monde
Objectives for this topic
- To understand descriptions of holidays in the past.
Introduction
In this topic, you will read and describe holiday activities that have happened in the past. You will also learn how to form the perfect tense using the auxiliary verb avoir.
Working through your coursebook
Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:
- Page 118 Exercise 1 – Read the postcard about Mathieu’s past holiday. Can you find the 12 verbs? What do you notice about them? Are there any patterns? How would you say the verbs in the past tense in English? Make a list of them in your notebook to help you to identify the patterns and the meanings.
- Page 118 Exercise 2 – Re-read the postcard and answer the questions in French, having first read the Grammaire box at the bottom of Page 118. Challenge yourself by using the perfect tense in your answers to the questions in Exercise 2. For example: Mathieu a visité la Statue de la Liberté.
- Page 119 Exercise 3 -Read the description of trip around the world and look at the photos. Can you work out which day they visited each of the places in the photos? Then make a list of all the past tense verbs used in the description and translate them into English.
- Now let’s practise your transcription skills! Listen to Audio Disc 2 Track 30 where Louis describes a trip to Paris.
- Write down five complete sentences from the conversation in French. Pay attention to your spelling and verb conjugations! Check your work against the Allez 1 answers.
- Using the orange box on page 119, say five complete sentences aloud using the perfect tense.
