Before you start this lesson with your child, it is recommended that you try out the exercises first to familiarise yourself with this program before you introduce it to your child.

Introduction Icon.png Introduction

Ask your child to recap their learning from last week. Can they tell you the code to:

  • Switch between backdrops (switch backdrop)?
  • Make a character appear as if they are talking (say ….)?

MainActivity.png Main Activity

Explain that this week, your child will be creating an animated story with 4-6 scenes. They will incorporate their learning from the previous weeks to switch between the backdrops and to add extra speech to the character. There is even the potential to add in additional sprites.

Ask your child to use the story planner to plan their story prior to going onto Scratch.

The video Creating a Longer Animated Story and / or Resource Sheet 4.1 will show one version of a story and how it could be animated.

Using the Scratch file saved from last week, or the Week 3 Completed Scratch Animation, encourage your child to add in additional scenes to create an animated story.

Remind your child to save their work!
