Topic Three (1.3): Multiples and factors
Introduction
Multiples of 8 are 8, 16, 24, 32, etc. They are numbers that can be divided by 8 exactly. Factors of 8 are 1, 2 4 and 8. They are numbers that divide into 8 exactly. It may be easier to think of multiples as lots of and factors as parts of.
Working through your course book
Multiples of numbers are many, as times tables can go on forever. You will probably be asked for the first few, or multiples that are between two limits. With factors, you will either be asked for all of them or asked if a number is a factor. For this type of question, you will need to use divisibility tests.
- Go to the MyMaths 2B digital book and watch the video on page 9.
- Now read through the example on page 8, which shows you the different divisibility tests.
- Answer the questions on page 9.
