Introduction
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to your Wolsey Hall Guide to the Cambridge IGCSE Physics course. Please take the time to read carefully through this guide. It will explain how the course is structured, how to get the most out of the course and how your work will be assessed. At the end of this guide you will find the Programme of Study for the course which shows how the course links to the CAIE syllabus. Wolsey Hall IGCSE courses lead you step-by-step through the CAIE syllabus by way of video links, quizzes, assignments and, of course, the Course Book so that by the end you are confident and keen to enter the exam to show off all you have learnt.
In many ways, Physics is considered the purest form of science. Questions about Biology and Chemistry, when taken to their core, can be explained using Maths and Physics. How does your chair support your weight? Why do objects fall? How is heat transferred from one place to another? What makes something radioactive? These topics are all introduced throughout this course, but as you start finding out more, you’ll learn that the more questions you answer, the more there is to learn. Physics is nearly limitless!
Studying at Wolsey Hall is exciting and fun. We think carefully about how to support your learning. Thus, we have carefully selected a Course Book, inserted many resources to help reinforce the material in the book, created interesting practicals for you to try (safely!) at home, and we are always just a message away from answering questions about any topics that you might be finding difficult.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Discuss the ways in which physics affects our lives and everyday phenomena.
- Understand the importance of experimenting logically and ‘scientifically’.
- Communicate in a scientific way.
