Syllabus and Examination Information

This Wolsey Hall course has been written by a Computer Science specialist to prepare you for the Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science examination which you will sit at a Cambridge exam centre.

The Programme of Study for this course is a very important document as it shows how the course links to the CAIE syllabus and highlights which pages of the coursebook to read as you progress through the topics and modules. You should download this and keep it with you as you study.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE:

The examination code for IGCSE Computer Science (Graded A* to G) is 0478.

The examination code for IGCSE Computer Science (Graded 9 to 1) is 0984*.

*Exam code 0984 applies only to Zone 3 exam centres.  Students taking their exam in Zone 3 may choose which grading system they prefer when they register at an exam centre by selecting either exam code 0478 or exam code 0984.  Students taking their exam in the other Administrative Zones will take exam code 0478.

In your exam, you will sit 2 papers. Both feature a mixture of short answer and structured questions, and calculators are not permitted. All questions are compulsory:

  • Paper 1 – Computer Systems (1 hour 45 minutes). This paper contains a total of 75 marks. It covers the whole of Chapters 1-6 in your coursebook and makes up 50% of your total mark.
  • Paper 2 – Algorithms, Programming and Logic (1 hour 45 minutes). This paper also contains a total of 75 marks. It covers Chapters 7-10 of your coursebook and also makes up 50% of your total mark.
