Objectives for this topic
By the end of this topic you should be able to:
- explain the terms: command words, calculate, copy and complete, define, give, identify, name, state, suggest;
- use a map to name and identify villages and museums;
- calculate the distance between two museums;
- interpret a bar graph of visitors to the Ironbridge Gorge museums;
- devise questions about your own area using command words learned in this topic.
Introduction
This is the first of three topics to help you answer questions in geography. This is about the Ironbridge Gorge which you were introduced to in Topic 1.4.

- Activity 1- Find the command words in these recipe instructions! These words are the ones that tell you what to do. Hint: the first one is set.
- Activity 5 - Use the command words to create questions about the place where you live. You could use photos, maps or other information to give yourself inspiration for the questions.
- geog.1, pages 14-15 – read through these pages and complete all the ‘Your turn’ activities.
- There are so many command words to remember, it can be tricky to begin with. Get a family member to test you; they read out the command word and you tell them what it means.
