Software requirements

To complete the course, you will need the following software on your computer or access to the websites listed. You do not need to install the software in advance of the relevant module. When you get to the module, we will guide you through what needs to be installed (for PC or for MAC).

Don't forget to ask permission before downloading software and installing things on a computer if it doesn't belong to you!

You will require access to an e-mail system such as Outlook or Gmail for this module.

You will require a presentation tool such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides for this module.

The book suggests you use Notepad++. However, this makes it quite hard for you to send us your website, so instead you should use the TLJH website you have been signed up to - Logging in to TLJH. This saves you having to install any software,  automatically saves your work, and when it comes to submission time you can just send your tutor the link!

The book uses IDLE – an IDE (or Integrated Development Environment) which comes with Python. You can download the latest version of Python 3 (not Python 2!) from Python.org Links to an external site. – installing this will also install IDLE for you.

We recommend you use the TLJH site that you will have been signed up to when you enrol on the course. You will be asked to complete your final assignment on TLJH and send the link to your tutor so even if you prefer to work in IDLE, it is a good idea to practise on TLJH as well. Logging in to TLJH.

The book uses Microsoft Excel which is available for Windows and Mac computers and can be used online through Office 365. However we will also be supporting students to use Google Sheets, which is free

The book uses the website db.ictsoeasy.co.uk Links to an external site. and you should have received a code to access this.

Note. Do not use the code until you are ready to start using the database in Module Six.

You can also install MySQL for free if you wish, although there is quite some setup to go through to use it.
