This Sample shows One module from the full course and is designed to give you a flavour of the Wolsey Hall approach to home study.

Welcome to Year 8 International History. If you completed Year 7, you will be used to zooming around the world sampling a rich variety of past civilisations. If you are new to International History, then welcome aboard! This is a journey through global history like no other!

Whereas in Year 7 you focused on ancient cultures, in Year 8 you move forwards in time, so we begin with an overview module to bring you up to speed on the transition from the ancient to the modern world. Then it’s down to business with the Vikings, and a chance to challenge stereotypes – should we view them as ‘raiders’ merely? Next you go deep into Japan, to find out why for so many hundreds of years it was a closed country, and how it opened up to the West. Study of the Angkhor empire, the Mongols, and the Ottomans follows, until in your final module you step bravely into the world of the Aztecs, drawing on your most thoughtful historical evaluation skills to consider the difficult and sensitive question of Spanish conquest in the Americas.

Open your eyes, open your minds – and open your obook! May the wind of intellectual curiosity go with you!
