Module One Introduction
Welcome to the first module of your Year 7 English course!
Module One is all about developing your reading skills. You will explore different texts including poetry and extracts from literature such as Robinson Crusoe.
The main objectives for the module will be to learn about the typical features of adventures stories including how tension and suspense is developed. You will also be introduced to the PEE technique (Point, Example, Explain) and you will begin to learn how to analyse language such as imagery.
Both assignments in this module are marked using the reading assessment criteria. You will need to demonstrate the following key skills:
- Using quotations to support your ideas about the text.
- Analysis of the language (this can be techniques or word choices.)
- A personal response showing an understanding of the overall effects on the reader.
You should work through each topic, reading your course book, completing the activities and watching any videos. Remember that if you need more support you should refer to the important course resources or if you feel ready for an extra challenge then do complete all the stretch activities in Ignite 1.
Once you have completed Topic 1.2, you can then complete Assignment One A. Assignment One B should be completed at the end of the module. Do read the assignment guidance sheets before completing these modules as they show you some examples of how to approach reading assignments.
