In this topic you will investigate how you can take inspiration from real-life events to create your own mystery story. You will also explore how to structure a mystery story.

  • Please read and work through pages 18-19 of Ignite 2. Complete the activities as you come to them.
  • It is important to learn how to summarise texts as this is a skill used throughout Key Stage 3 and IGCSE. Read and complete all activities on the Skimming and Scanning PowerPoint Download Skimming and Scanning PowerPoint before attempting Question 2.
  • Now read through and do the activities on pages 20-21 in Ignite 2.
  • Mystery stories can be complicated! Create a graph like the one on page 20 for your own mystery story. You will be writing this story at the end of the module as your assignment. Also, see the worksheet Planning your Mystery Story Download Planning your Mystery Story and fill this in.

Read through and complete pages 12 and 13 in your SPG workbook. Answers can be checked on pages 79 and 80. This will help you revise silent letters and vowel sounds. If you need any help whilst completing the exercises in the workbook, remember that there are Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Guides (SPG Guides) in the important course resources.
