Introductory Module

BIENVENUE EN FRANCOPHONIE!

 Reading

For this module you will need to read pages 1-4 in your coursebook, and work through pages 4-7 of your workbook. This is an introductory module, so there is no assignment at the end of it and you can move swiftly on to Module One when you finish it.

In this module, you will learn about places where French is spoken, ‘la Francophonie’. (If someone is ‘francophone’, they speak French.) ‘Bienvenue’ means ‘welcome’.

Look at the introductory pale yellow box on the left hand side of the page to see what you are going to learn about – in this case ‘les distances’, ‘les horaires’ (timetables) and ‘les fêtes nationales’ (national holidays). You will also see a list of the grammar and learning strategies that you are going to study.

Look at the instructions in the boxes below to help you understand what you are supposed to do. We are not offering a full translation of the whole book, as you should be able to understand a lot of the instructions on your own at this stage, but a partial translation and lots of hints and tips to help you. If you still find words you can’t understand, use a dictionary to look them up, or go to this site Links to an external site.. Make sure you look down the Word Reference page to see words used in context as well.
