Welcome to our Cambridge IGCSE Spanish course. This guide explains how the course is structured, how your work will be assessed and how to get the most out of your studies, so please read it carefully before you start. It is also extremely beneficial to read the Programme of Study which shows you exactly how this course links to the CAIE syllabus.
This course leads you step-by-step through the syllabus using your coursebook, video links, quizzes and assignments. In addition, six half-hour video call lessons with your tutor prepare you for the Spanish speaking paper so that by the end you will feel confident and ready to show off all you have learnt in your IGCSE exam.
When you learn Spanish, you are joining an international community. Not only is it the official language of Spain, it is also spoken across Central and South American countries, which are former Spanish colonies,and, more recently, in the USA due to migration from its southern neighbours. You probably know a lot more Spanish than you think you do. Because English and Spanish share many words of Latin origin, you will already be able to recognise more than 3,000 Spanish words! English also borrows words of Spanish origin, including tornado, siesta and patio - you are already a step ahead.
At Wolsey Hall, we think Spanish is not only important, but also fun! We’ve handpicked the best coursebook and carefully selected resources to make your learning experience interesting and informative. As Spanish tutors on this course, we will give you detailed feedback throughout. We have taught Spanish for many years and have worked with students of all abilities - so don’t be shy about asking any questions.
During your course, you will learn a lot about Spanish that is fascinating and useful. By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- communicate effectively in Spanish;
- understand the cultures and societies of countries where Spanish is spoken;
- understand the processes of language and language learning.
