Welcome to Year 9 International History!
Your Year 9 International History studies leap into the twentieth century - a century of truly global events. After a bridging module which ensures you have the understanding of Empire and Industry needed to make sense of twentieth-century history, you will explore the two world wars, the political ideologies of this discordant period, the so-called ‘Cold War’, and finally the later decades of the century, with a focus on the Middle East and South Africa. The course keeps you moving from country to country, shining a light on different regions to enable you to embrace different perspectives.
Most of the course is based on the renowned OUP coursebooks by Aaron Wilkes: Revolution, Industry and Empire and Technology, War and Independence. These are available in hard copy but also accessible online, giving you access to a wider range of interactive resources on Kerboodle Links to an external site.*, which will keep your learning varied and fun. The textbooks are supplemented with bespoke resources on Canvas to strengthen the international angle of your studies and you will also find a range of optional activities to support you if you need it or to stretch you if you are ready for an extra challenge. These may make use of lively, scholarly websites such as the Historical Association Links to an external site.. All along the way, you will be building the knowledge, understanding and skills that build a strong foundation for IGCSE History.
It's time, then, to step on to the international stage of a particularly complex century… We hope you enjoy the challenge!
* This video also covers features that are not applicable for the course, such as setting homework. Please note that access to Kerboodle and the Historical Association is only available on the full course.
