Read the description of the ‘Carnival of the Animals’ pieces from last week in the Carnival of the Animals activity book. Watch and listen again to the pieces from last week in the Carnival of the Animals video. Ask your child to complete the pages in the activity book for the animals that they can hear.

First time listening ask your child to close their eyes and imagine the animals as they arrive to the carnival. Extension: Can your child name the instruments?

Second time listening, follow the instructions on the video. Give time for discussion of each piece and also let your child make shapes to show the animals.

Then play all of the pieces so far together, going back to the beginning of the video each time and let your child colour in one of the animals in the activity book as they listen. They should use colours that match how the piece makes them feel rather than the ‘correct’ colours.

Look at the music at the bottom of each page in the activity book, see if they can follow the shape of the music along with their finger.

Ask your child to name the animals in order. Name the instruments used with each animal. Describe why each movement might sound like the animal.

Continue to colour the activity book using colours that show how the piece makes them feel. It must be coloured at the same time as listening to the piece.
