How to prepare for your speaking assignment

SPEAKING: A GUIDE TO PREPARING FOR YOUR VIDEO CALL

During this course, you will need to complete four speaking assignments, three as a video call with your tutor and another as a recording which you will need to upload to Canvas.

Please note that you will need to arrange the video calls for Assignments 1B, 3B and 5B with your tutor in advance. If you fail to show up for the video call, you will be given one chance to rearrange. If you fail to show up for the second prearranged video call, your tutor will issue you with a 0. 

TOP TIP! Try to sound natural and spontaneous. If you have your answers written out, it is very easy to then become tempted to just read it out.   It is important to avoid this as you will lose marks.

Practise your answers to the questions before your video call to check you can remember everything you want to say.

Try practising by talking to yourself or with an English-speaking friend or relative. Don’t worry if you pause or stumble, that happens in natural speech!
