Module Zero

INTRODUCTORY SKILLS

Introduction

This module should be read in conjunction with the Programme of Study.

The Programme of Study lists the topics that are in the module and gives you the relevant page references for your textbooks. This module aims to give you more direction as you work through the various topics. It will aim to highlight the most important items in the topic, as well as areas that need particular care. It will also point you towards the resources you should be using.

Remember to double-check the syllabus to make sure you cover all the items that you need to.

Module Overview

This module introduces you to some key skills and documents which you will need to use and refer to throughout this course – and at AL if you complete the full A Level.

Before beginning the core content of the course in Module One, you should familiarise yourself with the requirements of AS English Literature and the skills you need to develop from (I)GCSE in order to get the most out of this course.

The topics that follow will introduce you to the kinds of essays you will need to produce in AS and A Level English Literature and how these will be assessed by examiners. The same principles apply to your Wolsey Hall assignments as these are all modelled on real exam questions and marked using CAIE’s mark schemes.

We recommend that you read through this module and its resources now, and check you have an overview of the key skills required, but that you also return to these materials regularly as you work through the course in order to consolidate and practise these skills, applying them to each new text as you study it.
