Frequently asked questions
Do I need to send my topic work to my tutor?
In the topic pages, you will be directed to complete exercises in your music theory textbook. You do not need to send these to your tutor. You should check your answers using the answer book as instructed.
Can I study the modules and take assignments in any order?
You will need to study the modules and take the assignments in the order they appear on the course. There will be parts of the course such as quizzes (prerequisites) which you will need to complete before the next assignment becomes unlocked. Each assignment will appear locked until the previous assignment has been graded.
Do I need to take the assignments in test conditions?
No. All of the assignments in the Year 9 course should be approached as open-book assignments. The assignments are formative (also known as 'assignments for learning') which means that they form part of your learning and they do not need to be taken under test conditions.
Where can I find the answers to the textbook questions?
You should check your answers to theory textbook questions in the theory answer book. For other questions, not all answers will be provided. A number of questions are designed to develop your skills (there are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers) and all of the skills you have developed can be put into practice in your assignments. Please do ask your tutor if you are struggling with any particular concepts.
What happens if I get stuck?
Have a look at topic page: have you read all the relevant information and completed all of the tasks? There are optional resources to help you along the way. If you have read through all of the resources and are still unsure of something, then go ahead and then email your tutor with your question. Your tutor will be very happy to help.
What is an 'online practice diary' ?
This is the place where you save your compositions or exercises as you work through the course. Ideally, you should save your work in one place, such as in a folder named 'Year 9 Online Practice Diary' on your computer. This will keep your work organised and help you to locate it when preparing for your end of module assignments.
