Topic Four (1.4): Art and AI
Objectives for this topic
By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
- Understand how AI art is generated
- Use an AI art generator.
Introduction
AI has emerged as a powerful tool in the realm of creativity, transforming the way we perceive and create art. AI art often involves the use of machine learning algorithms, where the system learns patterns, styles and features from existing artworks. This allows it to create new pieces by combining and reinterpreting learned elements.
Neural networks, inspired by the human brain, play a crucial role in AI art generation. These networks can learn complex relationships in data and produce novel outputs, resulting in a diverse range of artistic expressions. One popular technique in AI art involves the use of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). GANs consist of a generator and a discriminator that work in tandem, creating a continuous loop of improvement. The generator produces art and the discriminator provides feedback, leading to the refinement of the generated pieces.
Working through your course
Let’s imagine that we need a logo for our AI consulting company. It’s a great opportunity to get AI to help us. You can add more detail to the prompt, but I am going to use: logo for AI consulting company .

and see what they come up with. Did it get the spelling right? Did it even look like a logo?
Review
Reflect upon what you have just covered. In your workbook, summarise:
- What you have learnt
- What you already knew
- What surprised you
- What you are curious to know more about.
