Topic One (1.1): Text Types
Objectives for the topic
- To recognise different text types
- To identify the purpose, audience and form of texts.
Introduction
In this topic, you will read extracts from different types of texts and you will write a commentary about a blog.
Session One (1.1.1): Introduction to Text Types
- Read the introduction to the topic and complete the activities on pages 8-9 of your Quest 2 coursebook. You can listen to the audio of some of the extracts here on Kerboodle:

Session Two (1.1.2): Purpose, Audience and Form
- Read and complete all of the activities on pages 12-13 of your coursebook.
- You need to consider the purpose, audience and form before writing any type of text. This resource will be useful throughout the course for reminding you about the typical features found in each type of text:

When you next go out, you could make a list of the texts that you encounter or you could take photographs of them. Then you could add to Activities 1 and 3. You could produce a poster or collage of the text types to help show what you have discovered.
Session Three (1.1.3): Narrative
- Read and complete all of the activities on pages 14-15. You can listen to the Captain Scott extract here:

- For Activity 5, you can choose to write a formal or informal letter. If you choose to write a formal letter, read through this PowerPoint, which identifies key features of a formal letter:

Session Four (1.1.4): Finding Evidence
- Read and complete all of the activities on pages 16-17. Listen to the audio of this extract:
