Session Two (1.7.2): Focusing on the language and making links with the English language

Do you know the words “monolingual”, “bilingual” and “multilingual”?

These words describe how many languages a person knows:

Complete Exercise 4 on page 25.
Complete Exercise 5 - look at the words and use your knowledge of phonics to work out how they are pronounced. Now listen to the recording to see how accurate you were. After each word is pronounced, try and repeat it to match the sound that you hear.

Read the Francophonie box on page 25. French is a Latin language, but did you know that Arabic also has a strong influence on French? Approximately 500 French words come from Arabic.
Complete Exercises 6 and 7. If you have the time, search for the artists on YouTube and listen to some of their music. Do you like it?
