Introduction

Welcome to our Cambridge IGCSE English First Language course. This guide explains how the course is structured, how your work will be assessed and how to get the most out of your studies, so please read it carefully before you start.

This course leads you step-by-step through the syllabus using your coursebook, video links, quizzes and assignments, so that by the end you will feel confident and ready to show off all you’ve learnt in your IGCSE exam.

You will need a good command of English in many aspects of your life: educational, personal and professional. This course is designed to help you communicate clearly and effectively in writing and to appreciate the power of words. To that end, we encourage you to read as widely as possible and to develop your vocabulary as fully as you can.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • understand and respond to what you read, hear and experience;
  • communicate with accuracy, using effective, appropriate language;
  • enjoy and appreciate a variety of language;
  • apply the skills of analysis and inference;
  • synthesise and understand information from a range of texts.
