This Sample shows One module from the full course and is designed to give you a flavour of the Wolsey Hall approach to home study.
STUDYING PSYCHOLOGY
The word Psychology comes from the Greek psychē (meaning “breath or life”), and logia (“word or reason”). Psychologie was first used in the 17th century and was referred to as “the knowledge of the Soul.”
Today, the British Psychological Society defines Psychology as the scientific study of the mind and how it dictates and influences our behaviour, from communication and memory to thought and emotion. It's about understanding what makes people tick and how this understanding can help us address many of the problems and issues in society today. In fact, any attempt to explain why humans think and behave in the way that they do will inevitably be linked to one or another branch of Psychology.
In this GCSE course, we will lead you through a wide variety of psychological topics including Development, Memory, the Brain and Neuropsychology, Criminal Psychology and Sleep. The aims of our course include the following:
- to introduce you to the basic theories and research methods in Psychology
- to study specialist vocabulary, psychological concepts, terminology and conventions necessary to engage in the process of psychological enquiry
- to develop an understanding of the relationship between Psychology and personal, moral, social and cultural issues.
STUDYING WITH WOLSEY HALL
Course Structure
Wolsey Hall IGCSE courses are written around a course book which we have chosen as the best available text for each syllabus. You will be guided through the book by working through a series of online Modules. These have been developed by a subject specialist and include detailed guidance linked to the course book and extensive online resources.
At the end of each Module, there is an interactive quiz which will enable you to assess how much of the syllabus you have understood so far. Once you feel that you have achieved all the learning objectives for that Module, you should begin work on the Assignment. You will submit Assignments online, which will be marked by your Course Tutor. Each Assignment is then returned to you with a grade and detailed feedback within 3 – 5 working days.
Course Support
You have been enrolled by your Progress Manager who is available to help you with any administrative issues. She will support you throughout your course and help you keep to your Assignment schedule.
You will begin your course with a video call introduction with your Course Tutor. Here you will have an opportunity to discuss the course and raise any questions or concerns. From them on, if you require guidance, you will be able to contact your Course Tutor via the Canvas Messaging System at any time.
To help you get the most out of your Psychology course, we have produced a comprehensive Course Guide. We ask you please to read it through carefully before you begin your studies.
Best Wishes
