Welcome to your Wolsey Hall AS Maths with Statistics Course
This Sample shows One module from the full course and is designed to give you a flavour of the Wolsey Hall approach to home study.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Your course consists of a series of modules which you should study in sequence. There is also a module introducing the course which contains:
- the exam syllabus. Make sure you’re completely familiar with this, as it will really help you prepare for the exam;
- the Programme of Study (POS), showing the course structure. Go through the POS carefully NOW so as to understand the layout of the modules and the topics you need to cover;
- valuable advice for studying, revision and using the online resources.
ASSIGNMENTS
At the end of each module you will submit an assignment to your tutor. This will test your knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in the module. And the questions will be similar to those you’ll face in the exam.
Your tutor will grade your assignments and provide detailed feedback, usually within five working days. Regular submission of assignments, to a good standard, according to the schedule prepared by your Student Progress Manager, is the single most important thing you can do to be fully prepared for the exam ahead.
But make sure you’ve received feedback from your previous assignment before submitting the next one. That way, you’ll be able to draw on your tutor’s advice, and put their suggestions into action.
YOUR TUTOR
Make the most of your Skype introduction with your tutor at the start of the course. Discuss any questions you might have. While your tutor does not teach online, you can send them a message via the Canvas Messaging System at any time, if you require guidance. Don’t worry about making mistakes in your assignments - this is how we all learn. But do reflect carefully on your tutor’s assignment feedback and take that advice into account.
Your tutor's feedback on your assignments is vital in helping you understand how to improve your skills and progress through the course. Make sure you read this carefully and that you reflect on their comments before submitting your next assignment. The feedback can include annotations added to the assignment itself, as well as the summative comment at the end. You need to view your returned assignments under ‘Grades’ and click ‘View Feedback' in order to see all of your tutor’s feedback.
CANVAS RESOURCES
Many of the resources provided on Canvas have been designed especially for you, to help you get the most out of the course. Some of them are general resources which will help you throughout your course and others are module-specific. We recommend that you make full use of these resources as they will increase your understanding of the subject. Additional resources may also be added to the course from time to time, so check Canvas regularly to see what is available to help you.
SUPPORT
If you’re uncertain about anything at any time, email your Student Progress Manager. They are there to help you through the course. It's important to complete the course within the timeframe of your assignment schedule, as this is geared to the date of your first exam. If you fall behind the schedule, ask your Student Progress Manager about revising it.
We do hope you enjoy studying at Wolsey Hall.
Good luck!
