What does the course cover? The programme of study and National Curriculum links

On the Wolsey Hall Year 7 Art and Design course you will work your way through six modules which follow the Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum.

  • Before Module One, there is an introductory  call with your tutor.
  • At the end of Module Three, there is a mid-course review.
  • At the end of Module Seven, there is an end-of-course review.

This course framework is based on students having about 1.5 hours of Art and Design per week.

Before you complete Assignment 1, you will be asked if you would be willing to share any outstanding work you produce in an on-line virtual gallery. This gallery will only be accessible to students on this course. 

Module One: Drawing fundamentals

Module Overview

In Module 1 you will learn about drawing structures in a sketch pad. You will complete a series of drawing studies and create a large detailed drawing demonstrating what you have learnt in this module.

Module Two: Painting Macro and Micro

Module Overview

In Module 2 you will learn about micro images and learn different brush techniques. You will also learn how to experiment with different types of paint media, research a theme/subject matter for your painting and research painters and artists who work in similar themes.

Module Three: Exploring Printmaking – Block Printing

Module Overview

In Module 3 you will experiment with techniques in block printing. You will learn about making patterns using relief blocks, as well as printing on fabric, paper and other textiles.

Module Four: Three-Dimensional Sculpture – Making Figures

Module Overview

In Module 4 you will learn how to use hot flour paste to make sculptures.  You will learn the techniques necessary to make your figure look as realistic as possible.
