Module One
INTRODUCING CAECILIUS AND HIS FAMILY
Introduction
This module should be read in conjunction with the Programme of Study.
The Programme of Study lists the topics that are in each module and gives you the relevant pages for your coursebook, whether it is a physical book or one of the eBooks. Some of the web links given are to help with grammar, and some are of historical and cultural interest. Whilst you have signed up to learn Latin, the Romans would not have understood anyone who was not interested in all aspects of a society that was being studied. The ways they thought, the places they lived and the literature they read all went to make them the people we study today and, as always, language reflects the attitudes of the people that speak it. Do have a look at the cultural links and read anything about the Romans that will enhance your experience of the ancient world. Each topic relates to a stage in the Cambridge Latin Course.
Please note: Remember to learn vocabulary as you go along, and most importantly to download the Defined Vocabulary List from the Syllabus on Canvas. This is vocabulary that you are expected to know for the examination. It would be a good idea to cross-reference this vocabulary with the checklists at the end of each stage; in this way you will find that you have learnt the vast majority of the words on it in a steady way.
