By the end of this topic you should be able to:
- explain the terms: physical weathering, chemical weathering, freeze-thaw weathering, exfoliation, feldspars, clay, quartz, soil;
- name the two main types of weathering and state the key difference between them;
- describe four processes in physical weathering and two processes in chemical weathering;
- understand that the weathering of rock leads to soil;
- give the two key factors that affect the rate of weathering (climate and rock type).
Introduction
In this topic you will learn about the two main types of weathering processes - physical and chemical. You will also learn about the key factors affecting weathering (climate and rock type) and the end result - soil.
