Introduction

In this topic, you will find out interesting cultural information about Germany. In terms of language, you will learn how to talk about food and drink.  


Working through your coursebook

Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:

  • Complete exercise 1 on page 96: decide which fruit or vegetable is in season in which month.
    Extra: why not look up a few more fruits and vegetables and add to this list?
  • Complete exercise 2 on page 96: are the sentences describing picture a or picture b?
  • Complete exercise 3 on page 97: read the texts and complete the table in English.
    Extra: why not translate the texts into English?
  • read the Kultur box on page 97 to find out what to say when having a meal in German.
  • Complete exercise 1 on page 98: match the words (1-16) with the pictures (a-p). 
  • Compete exercise 2 on page 98: listen to the audio file. Then write what they eat and drink for breakfast.

    Extra: rather than just writing the letters from exercise 1, why not write down the actual words?

  • Complete exercise 3 on page 98: write dialogues about what people eat for breakfast. 
  • Complete exercise 4 on page 99: read the text and complete the table in English.
  • Complete exercise 7 on page 99: translate the article into English. 

Review

  • Complete exercise 5 on page 99. Write from Ulli’s perspective. Aim for at least 50 words.
    Extra: for extra exam practice, add more depth by including opinions and reasons.
