Introduction

In this topic, you will learn how to read and understand restaurant reviews. You will also start building sentences in the past tense, using the perfect tense with the verb haben.


Working through your coursebook

Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:

  • Complete exercise 1 on page 104. Read the menus and find the German words for the English expressions (a-h). Fill the gaps with the information from the weather forecast. 
  • Complete exercise 2 on page 104. Listen to the audio. What are they ordering?

  • Complete exercise 3 on page 104. Pretend you are in one of these restaurants. Create a role play, ordering food from those menus. 

Extra: why not add more restaurant language, such as asking for the price.  

  • Complete exercises 4 and 5 on page 105. Read the restaurant reviews and match the restaurants to the menus from exercise 1. Then find the German translation for the English expressions (a-f).
  • Complete exercise 6 on page 105. Listen to the audio and complete the sentences in English.

Review

Read the Strategie box on page 105 for some more tips on how to write creatively in German. Then complete exercise 7 on page 105. Write a positive or a negative restaurant review. Use the texts from exercise 3 to help you.
