Introduction

In this topic, you will discover more interesting facts about Germany. You will also have the opportunity to revise and consolidate the grammar covered in Module 1.  


Working through your coursebook

Please work through the following sections in your coursebook, completing all listed exercises:

  • Complete exercise 1 on page 108. Listen to the audio and match up what you hear with the different dishes (1-12)

  • Complete exercise 2 on page 108. Read the descriptions (a-l) and match them to the pictures (1-12). 

Extra: Why not translate them into English? You could try and find the recipes online!

  • Complete exercises 3 and 4 on page 109. Listen to the audio and read the text. Then complete the sentences in English.

Extra: to turn this into a listening exercise, why not listen to the audio file at the same time as reading the text. You could even pause and repeat it yourself, to practise pronunciation!

  • After revising what you have learnt about the present tense of essen and trinken, complete exercises 1 and 2 on page 110. 
  • After revising ich möchte und ich hätte gern, complete exercises 3 and 4 on page 110 to consolidate your knowledge. 
  • After revising the perfect tense with haben, complete exercises 5 and 6 on page 111 to consolidate your knowledge. 
  • After revised the use of sollen, complete exercise 7 on page 111 to consolidate your knowledge.
  • Complete exercise 8 on page 111: listen to the audio and repeat what you hear, trying to sound as close to the audio as possible.

  • Complete exercise 9 on page 111: listen to the audio and practise saying the tongue twisters.

Review

  • Complete the Was kann ich schon section on page 112 and page 113.
  • Complete exercise 1 on page 112. Read the text and decide if the statements are true or false  
  • Complete exercise 2 on page 112. Translate the underlined sentences from exercise 1 into English. 
  • Complete exercise 3 on page 112. Listen to the audio and complete the table by writing down what each person orders to eat and to drink.

  • Complete exercise 4 on page 112. Listen to the audio and answer the questions in English.

  • Complete exercise 5 on page 113. Correct the spelling mistakes.
  • Complete exercise 6 on page 113. Put the words into the correct order. 
  • Complete exercise 7 on page 113: Translate these sentences into German. Be careful to consider German word order rules – don’t be tempted to translate word for word, as German sentences sometimes have a different word order compared to English sentences. 

Once you have completed all of these tasks, add up your points and find out if you have won bronze, silver or gold!
