Module One

In Module 1 you will be introduced to Marcus Tullius Cicero, the politician and orator from whose many letters and books we are able to learn so much about the last days of the Roman republic and from whose legal speeches aspiring lawyers can still learn much about constructing an argument.

You will also be continuing to increase your Latin vocabulary and your understanding of cases and tenses. In Module 1 you will learn more about pronouns and that frequently used verb eo I go. There is more about adjectives, how to use comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs and you will add the pluperfect tense so that you can talk about things that happened further back in time than the perfect tense. Carry on looking for Latin words that still survive in some form in English; these derivations are helpful in your writing in lots of other subjects that you are studying.

Use the topic pages on Canvas to guide you through the coursebook, as these give you hints and tips on what you should be reading in the book and which exercises you should be doing. The answer keys are also available at the end of the topics, but you should try the exercises first or you will find the assignment at the end of each module more difficult.

When you have completed the topics and you feel confident that you can remember the language and the background information you have been reading, you are ready to complete the assignment and submit it to your tutor.
