Topic Five (1.5): Planning Assignment One

 Introduction

In this topic, you will compare texts written in the same literary tradition and also you will be helped to plan and write your assignment.

 Working through your course book

  • Read through pages 50-53 in Ignite 3. Complete the activities as you come to them. This examines a particular type of poem that originated in the 13th century, so some of the words be unfamiliar to you. Remember you can always use a dictionary if you need help with this. This was a very popular form used by Shakespeare; you will read one of his famous sonnets on page 52.
  • Now read through and do the activities on pages 54-55. Use the notes and ideas here to plan and write your assignment. Your assignment has two parts.  Part one is a writing task as you will be writing your own poem based on the theme of relationships. You can choose to submit one of the poems you have written during this module if you would like. Remember that it doesn’t have to rhyme, but try to use descriptive techniques and imagery for the highest marks here.
