Syllabus and Examination Information

This Wolsey Hall course is designed to prepare you for the Cambridge IGCSE History examination which you will sit at a Cambridge exam centre.

It is vitally important that you become familiar with the syllabus which can be found here.

The CAIE History syllabus has two main components: the Core Content and the Depth Study.

Our course for the 2024 to 2026 exams chooses Option B for the Core Content component which is The 20th Century: International Relations since 1919. Our chosen Depth Study is Germany 1918 – 1945.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE:

The examination code for IGCSE History (Graded A* to G) is 0470.

The examination code for IGCSE History (Graded 9 to 1) is 0977*.

*Exam code 0977 applies only to Zone 3 exam centres. Students taking their exam in Zone 3 may choose which grading system they prefer when they register at an exam centre by selecting either exam code 0470 or exam code 0977.

Students taking their exam in the other Administrative Zones will take exam code 0470.

In your exam, you will sit three papers

  • Paper 1 (40% of your exam)

Paper 1 is a two-hour timed paper and contains structured questions based your core content section and your depth study. This paper is knowledge based only. 

  • Paper 2 (30% of your exam)

Paper 2 is a one hour 45 minutes timed paper and is a document paper (source paper) from a set topic. It requires you to use both the sources and your own knowledge.

  • Paper 4 (30% of your exam)

Paper 4 is an hour-long paper and questions based on your depth study. This paper includes an analytical narrative question and a longer essay based question on impact, importance or significance.
