Every aspect of the universe is, in some way, science. The force that stops you from floating off into space also forms great swirling galaxies. The molecules that determine our features use exactly the same ‘language’ to code for proteins in nearly every single species on earth, extinct or living. This means you can take a gene for glow-in-the-dark colour out of deep sea fish, embed it into an embryo, and get a glow-in-the-dark monkey. And the whole of this incredible universe is made out of just under a hundred basic building blocks, naturally occurring elements that end up as part of a tree, or a ladybird, or a computer, or you.

In this course you’ll be introduced to some of the infinite wonders of science, such as space, gravity, genetics and the periodic table. You’ll get the chance to try investigations out for yourself, and start to learn the scientific method, that fundamental way of thinking and testing aspects of the world around you to determine what’s really going on. From the smallest particles inside an atom, to the planets orbiting around our sun, the Wolsey Hall Year 8 Science course provides a solid foundation in Biology, Chemistry and Physics ready both for progressing on to Year 9 or simply to encourage our natural curiosity about the world around us.

You will work your way through nine modules which follow the English National Curriculum, using Activate 2 as your core course book and being guided through each topic on Canvas with lots of variety and links to activities, videos, animations and quizzes. The course also links to a wealth of resources on Kerboodle Links to an external si(activities, worksheets) and Twig (films, mind maps and experiments), which will truly enhance your learning experience.
