Check-In Step-by-Step Guide
1. Take timestamped photos and record a timelapse video of your session
To record your session, open the Timestamp camera app on your device:
As you begin your session, use the app’s camera to take a timestamped photo of your workspace:
Next, change the setting to Timelapse, and press the record button to start recording your session.
When you are finished, stop recording, change the setting back to Photo, and take another timestamped photo to mark the end of your session.
The images and video will be saved onto your device ready to upload to your Topic Check-In template in Canva.
2. Upload to Canva
Firstly, you’ll need to upload your Topic Check-In template to Canva. This can be done on your PC in the browser, or using the Canva app.
Log in to your Canva account. If you don’t yet have an account, you can easily create one.
Once you are logged in, choose Create a design.
Then select Upload and locate your check-in template to upload it. If you are using a PC, you can drag and drop your template into the window to upload it.
Once your template has loaded, you are ready to add your timestamped photos and timelapse video. This can be done in the Canva app on your device.
In the Canva app, locate your recently uploaded Topic Check-in template (you’ll find this under Recent designs) and tap to load. Make sure you add your module and topic information, and your name to the front page.
To add your photos and video, select Uploads from the bottom menu (you may need to scroll across). Tap Upload files to upload your photos. You can select multiple files as needed. Once your upload is complete, the images and videos will appear underneath. Tap a photo or video to add it to your template and drag to resize it if necessary. Repeat this step for each of your images and your video.
3. Export your check-in as an MP4 video
Once you have completed your information and uploaded your images and video to the template, you’ll need to export it as an MP4 file. Please note when exporting, it is important that you select MP4 and not the default PDF, otherwise your timelapse video will not be viewable.
Click the Share icon and choose Download. In the File type drop-down menu, choose MP4 video. Finally, click Download.

4. Compress your exported video using Handbrake
After you have downloaded your MP4 video, please view the guide on compressing your video using handbrake, as you will need to do this to ensure your file is a suitable size before uploading it to Canvas.
