FORMATTING AND PREPARING ASSIGNMENTS FOR UPLOADING

FORMATTING YOUR ASSIGNMENTS

It’s very important that you submit your assignments in a way that makes it easy for your tutor to mark and provide feedback.

All assignments should:

  • Be handwritten in black ink
  • Include your name, the subject, the course, the unit and the assignment number at the top of the first page.
  • Be submitted as a PDF document in a single file.
  • Include sufficient space around the answer of each question for tutor’s comments.

PREPARING ASSIGNMENTS

We recommend that you download and print the assignment, complete it in your own handwriting and then photograph the completed assignment using an app on your mobile phone, or scan it using a scanner. Please ensure that your assignment is:

  •  written on simple lined or plain, white paper (i.e. no background patterning or coloration.)
  •  written clearly and neatly.
  •  A4 size and smudge free.

This is important to ensure that your tutor can read your assignment easily.

You should then upload the scanned document to Canvas.

APPS TO PREPARE ASSIGNMENTS FOR UPLOAD

You can use your smartphone or tablet to take a photo of the assignment and convert it to PDF.

The following free apps will allow you to take a photo, or several photos, and export them as a PDF:

The following apps require in app purchases, but will do the same:

Please be sure to export them as PDF directly in the apps.

For Apple iOS users: please be aware that the Notes app is not suitable for creating PDFs for Canvas, as they are not saved at A4 size. Instead, please use one of the apps listed above.

MULTI-PAGE DOCUMENTS

When submitting an assignment to your tutor as a PDF please merge the pages into a SINGLE file before submitting to your tutor - please do not send each page as a separate document.

If you are using an app to create your PDF, it will have built-in functionality to allow you to do this.

Scanning devices may vary, so you should consult the manual for your scanner or multi-function device for instructions on how merge pages.

Alternatively, you can do this online on the following websites which will enable you to merge PDF documents:

ACCESS - iLovePDF Links to an external site.

Before submitting your assignment please make sure that it is less than 20MB in size.

When the tutor has graded your assignments you will be notified via the channels that you specify in your Notification Preferences.

You should discuss the best ways to submit assignments, depending on the subject area, with the tutor in your initial video call.
